Royal Knights: August Frescas Cocktail Pop-Up At The Royal

Mon, Aug 14

While growing up in Latin America, one of Royal owner Paul Carlson’s favorite ways to cool off in the summer was by sipping “agua frescas” — refreshing water-based drinks infused with fresh fruits, grains, herbs, flowers & seeds. Literally translating to “fresh waters,” these thirst-quenching sips showcase the best of summer’s bounty, so the LeDroit Park bar is adding booze and hosting a one-night cocktail pop-up called “Royal Knights: August Frescas”. The latest edition of its monthly “Royal Knights” spirits exploration & industry night series, “August Frescas” will feature the cocktail talents of guest bartender Jason Smith of Mike Isabella’s Arroz. Smith, who was one of Royal’s opening bartenders, will collaborate with Royal’s bar’s team on a one-night-only menu of 8 agua fresca cocktails, highlighting fresh flavors of strawberry, hibiscus, clementine, and even a digestif-spiked horchata. All cocktails will be $8. The kitchen will be open until 1am for hungry diners, with Chef Cable Smith serving handmade roasted chicken and vegetarian tamales for $10. 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. 501 Florida Avenue, NW.
