The most anticipated pop-up of the summer is coming. Drink Company and Ommegang Brewery presents the Game of Thrones Pop-Up Bar (PUB), in the spaces formerly known as Mockingbird Hill, Southern Efficiency, and Eat the Rich. At the Game of Thrones PUB, you will visit scenes from the North, the Red Keep, Mereen, the House of Black and White, and the Throne Room. Cocktails such as What is Dead May Never Die and The Lannisters Send their Regards will be paired with the show’s soundtrack. Swords, dragons, horns, and an Iron Throne help celebrate the show’s summer return. The Red Keep features the Armory, where you can pledge allegiance to your house banners, and take a picture as the flayed man on a custom piece built by The Strong Oaks Woodshop. This August, National Harbor and Peterson Companies will introduce Harbor Dome, greater Washington’s newest unique special events venue. The geodesic structure launches as Harbor Dome: Summer Snow Globe. The one-of-a-kind construction will accommodate 500 inside, and an additional 300 outside, and its dynamic programming, including craft cocktails, live music and real snow, will offer visitors yet another reason to experience everything that National Harbor offers. The initial iteration of the Harbor Dome will give guests a welcome respite from the summer heat. The fully functional snow globe will operate as a bar and lounge with nightly entertainment. It will be decorated in an icy white and silver color palette with multiple bars and sleek lounge seating inside. The temperature will be kept at 64-degrees, and regular dustings of snow will fall from the ceiling to realistically simulate winter in August. Visitors looking to cool down this summer will find a selection of specially created cocktails and an exciting musical lineup featuring recognized bands and DJs. The Capital Chili Cook-Off is an International Chili Society (ICS) sanctioned chili cook-off. The best chili cooks from across the region will compete to represent DC in the World Chili Cook-Off Championship in Reno, Nevada this October. There will be between 20 and 30 cooks allowed to enter the competition. You can enjoy unlimited chili samples during the event, and can vote for their favorites to win People’s Choice. Tickets are $45 per person for general admission, and $65 per person for VIP. For every ticket sold to the Capital Chili Cookoff, $10 will be donated to Dane Smothers, the DC firefighter who was critically injured in the line of duty earlier this month.
