Sour and Devour: A Sour Beer And Cheese Pairing At The Black Squirrel, Dunn Loring

Thu, Aug 24

Embrace the wild side of sour and cheese pairings at The Black Squirrel in Dunn Loring. A rich, dry, fruity and even funky beer and a cheese plate are a natural match. When it comes to pairing cheese with sour and wild beer, the principal axiom is:  The smellier the better. Add local creameries, like Stuarts Draft, Greenhill Farms, and Firefly Farms, and you’ve got a hit. Sour beer is produced in a number of ways: by kettle-souring a beer with lactic acid bacteria to create a kettle-soured beer, gose, or Berliner Weiss. A traditional sour is created by mixed fermentation of wild yeast and aged in wood barrels. This event will explore a number of sour beers including Trinity Brewing Red Swingline Wild IPA, Old Ox Brewing Mango Funky Face, Bear Republic Brewing 2015 Barrel-Aged Tartar, and more. 5:00 p.m. 2670 Avenir Place, Suite I Vienna, Virginia, Va.
