Mark your calendars for the Yards fifth annual winter wonderland extravaganza Ice Yards. This year Ice Yards will join forces with the Special Olympics DC annual PolarPlungeFundraiser. For the first time ever, thousands of Ice Yards’ revelers will be able to cheer on volunteers as they take the plunge for the 1,600 disabled DC-based athletes that receive training, resources, and recognition from Special Olympics DC, increasing awareness and support for the special organization in a festive and special way. After volunteers take the plunge, they can join the ski-chalet themed Ice Yards event and experience frozen cocktails and ice bars, interactive ice activities and games like live ice carving and DC’s largest group shotski attempt, in addition to live music from Suspicious Package, a band that includes ex-Bloomberg writer Tim Burger, Washington Post cartoonist Tom Toles, former Politico scribe Josh Meyer, Housing and Urban Development deputy assistant secretary Bryan Greene, and Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Christina Sevilla. Ice Yards Festival tickets are $10 per person. 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Onsite registration for PolarPlunge begins at 1:00 p.m., while plunging begins at 2:00 p.m. To purchase tickets for the Ice Yards Festival, please click here.
