The troubles are less and blessings be more this March as The Dubliner, Washington DC’s oldest and most revered Irish pub, counts down to St. Patrick’s Day with a week and a half of festivities, family, and froth. Beginning Friday, jovial toasts, premium tastings, Gaelic tunes, and non-stop Guinness are on tap for all who have called The Dubliner their home for more than four decades. The establishment’s 45th anniversary kicks off a 10-day stretch of celebrations, which culminates with the most festive day for the fighting Irish – Sunday, March 17. Luminaries such as Tip O’Neill and Ted Kennedy were regulars, and, the Prime Ministers of Ireland have been known to honor The Dubliner with an St. Patrick’s Day visit. Celebrations for the milestone commence with a two-hour special featuring birthday hour Guinness, as well as Fish & Chips for $4.50 in the bar area. The festivities continue on Sunday, March 10 with “Family Day at the Dubliner,” which will feature live music as well as face painting and a custom Guinness “Stoutie” machine. A week of premium swigs follow, with The Dubliner hosting special tastings of Redbreast Irish Whiskey on Monday, Middleton Irish Whiskey on Tuesday, Powers Irish Whiskey on Wednesday, a “Spotlight on Spot Night: Green & Yellow Spot Tastings” on Thursday, and Black Barrell Tastings of Jameson “Caskmates” Stout & IPA Editions on Friday. An all-day bash of live music and ballroom dancing starts the pre-game St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 16. The spirited festivities reach a grand finale on Sunday, March 17, kicking off at 9:00 a.m. with 45-cent Guinness, and live music all day, featuring three bands on two stages.
