The Ugly Mug, one of the few remaining dive bars on Capitol Hill, throws it back every Tuesday beginning January 15 with The Affordable Meal Act, a nod to “intern nights” of old where young staffers can get a meal they can afford with their meager earnings, stipends, and allowances. These affordable meals are just $7 and that includes a side of fries. Guests have four meal options created by Executive Chef, Ryan Hackney: DC Carryout Burger, topped with smoked cheddar, sautéed onions, bacon and house-made mac sauce; Tropic Thunder, half a basket of fried chicken thighs and mambo sauce; KFC or Korean Fried Chicken which includes five chicken wings coated in Korean BBQ sauce and sprinkled with peanuts; or a Veggie Fried Rice Bowl full of seasonal vegetables. The Affordable Meal Act is available every Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to close, but early arrival is suggested. From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., rail drinks, house wine, and a selection of beers are available for $2. The price goes to $3 from 5:00 6:00 p.m., and to $4 from 6:00 p.m. to close.
