We had a very relaxing show on Foodie and The Beast this weekend with beer, wine, and spa treatments. Dave Coleman and Mike McGarvey from 3 Stars Brewing were in to talk about the annual Craft Brewers’ Conference and their newest release. They showcased their pale ales and more, complete with beautifully designed can art. Then we tried wines that are sustainably grown, vegan, and give back to Mother Earth. What more could you want? Berlin Crystal Kelly was here to tell us about Proud Pour, which restores 100 oysters to the bay with every bottle of her Sauvignon Blanc. With every bottle of her Pinot Noir, wildflowers are planted in order to save the bees. After saving some wildlife, we switched gears and focused on humanitarian causes. Abby Seiler, communications manager for Food and Friends, and Jamie Leeds, chef and owner of JL Restaurant Group, talked about this year’s Dining Out For Life event which is a national annual fundraiser that benefits AIDS service organizations. You may know Jamie Leeds since she is the woman behind Hank’s Oyster, Pasta, and Cocktail bars. We also had our friend Danny Lee—chef and owner of Mandu, a wonderful Korean restaurant—back to tell us about the return of Anju and a weekend pop-up with Chef Hooni Kim, chef and owner of Danju and Hanjan in New York. Finally, we relaxed and rejuvenated with Theresa Escoffery, the Spa Supervisor of Mandarin Oriental. The luxe Mandarin Hotel boasts the only spa in Washington, D.C. to be awarded a four-star rating by Forbes. Theresa told us all about the facility’s heated pools, beauty treatments, and more.
