It was a lovely, boozy Sunday on Foodie & The Beast this week. It’s that time of year again for Sips & Suppers: two extraordinary evenings featuring the country’s finest chefs in support of DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table. Patty Stonesifer, President and CEO of Martha’s Table, and Mike Curtin, CEO of DC Central Kitchen, were in to tell us all about the fantastic event. Our good friend Chef Nate Anda was back in the studio to dish on his latest eatery that just opened, Red Apron Burger Bar, and we got a taste of their downright delicious Virginia-raised beef. Said Haddad and head distiller Matt Strickland were in with libations from District Distilling Co., which produces a premier line of D.C.-made spirits including Corridor Vodka, Checkerbark Gin, Backroom Bourbon, and Buzzard Point Rum. More boozy talk: the range of conditions, climates, and soils in New Zealand is huge, and many of the wines produced there are exceptional. Maria Canora, the East Coast representative of New Zealand Wines, as well as Graham Painter, the CEO of New Zealand Wine Navigator, were in studio to dish all about these New Zealand Wines and what sets them apart. And you all know about Ben’s Chili Bowl, the DC landmark and home to our world-famous chili and mouth-watering Ben’s original half smokes. They celebrated 58 years in business with an online photo contest “Eat, Sip, Snap & Win.” One of the founders, Nizam Ali, was in studio to announce the winner live.
