This week on Foodie & The Beast, New Kitchens on the Block took over the whole show. New Kitchens on the Block will be held Sunday, March 19 at Mess Hall in DC and will showcase 11 up-and-coming restaurants set to open this year. In studio, we had Sahil Rahman and Rahul Vinod to tell us about Rasa, their fast-casual Indian food project designed to make Indian food more accessible to all. We tried their spicy lamb dish with basmati rice. We also had Michael and Alexandra Bookless Turner in to tell us about June, their pop-up restaurant that focuses on using locally sourced ingredients. We tasted June’s version of Poppycock, which included candied pork rinds—a wonderfully sweet and salty addition. Anna Bran-Leis and Shawn Leis of Taqueria del Barrio brought in a hearty sampling of their delicious chicken tinga tacos. Of course, the show would not be complete without a little something to drink, so Stacy Khoury-Diaz gave us a preview of Dio Wine Bar with a few sips of reds and whites.
