StarChefs will present the coveted 2018 D.C.–Chesapeake Rising Star Awards to its recipients at Union Market’s Dock 5 for a ceremonial celebration. The convivial evening affair, which only occurs in the D.C. region once every four years, will commence with a VIP Reception at 5:45 p.m., followed by the Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., and the Tasting Gala from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., which will showcase 18 signature savory dishes, desserts, wine pairings, and cocktails, prepared by the 2018 Rising Stars. Chef winners include: Hari Cameron [(MUSE.)], Tom Cunanan [Bad Saint], Brad Deboy [Ellē], Jerome Grant [Sweet Home Café], Kwame Onwuachi [Kith and Kin], Carlos Raba [Clavel], Drew Adams [BOURBON STEAK], and Kevin Tien[Himitsu]. Steve Chu [Ekiben] is named the winner for Community Chef, and Opie Crooks [A Rake’s Progress] is honored as the top Hotel Chef. Charbel Abrache [Seylou Bakery], and Megan Fitzroy Phelan [Longoven] are the Pastry Chefs named as the top in their category. Bartender Brandon Peck [The Jasper] is distinguished as the best bartender, while Baker Jonathan Bethony [Seylou Bakery], Roaster Evan Howe [Small Planes Coffee], and Brewer Matt Tarpey [The Veil] are the award-winning Artisans. The team behind Call Your Mother Deli: Restaurateur Chris Brady, Restaurateur Andrew Dana, and Chef Daniela Moreira, together, are celebrated for Concept. Chef Erik Bruner-Yang [Foreign National] is named as the region’s leading Restaurateur, and Felicia Colbert [A Rake’s Progress], and Darlin Kulla [Succotash] are designated as the premier Sommeliers. The Host Chef of the evening’s event will be Tim Ma [American Son at The Eaton Hotel], with Guest Chef Lisa Odom [Succotash], and Guest Sommelier, Max Kuller [Fat Baby Inc.]. Throughout the night, StarChefs will also announce the winners of the Art of Presentation Award, the Mentor Award, Game Changer Award, and the Best Dish Award.
