Human Rights Campaign – For the sixth consecutive year, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation – the educational arm of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization – and prominent food writer David Hagedorn are bringing together the capital region’s top culinary talent for Chefs for Equality Washington, D.C.’s premier food event. The evening of food, cocktails, and music to benefit the fight for full LGBTQ equality will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, for the first time at Dock5 at Union Market. In addition to the impressive fare, live and silent auctions benefiting the HRC Foundation will be held. The jewels of the Chefs for Equality crown are nine personal chef tables – an opportunity to dine with celebrity chefs for a lavish five-course meal right in the middle of the action during the event. Some celebrity chef groupings for these tables include: Kevin Tien, Carlie Steiner, Johnny Spero and Katsuya Fukushima; David Guas, Bill Smith and Bryan Voltaggio. In addition to these nine tables is a centerpiece table for 16 guests, matched with Washington’s most celebrated fine dining chefs, including Patrick O’Connell, Frank Ruta, Aggie Chin, Fabio Trabocchi and Cindy Wolf. Save The Date – Osteria Morini DC and Executive Chef Benjamin Pflaumer are firing up the coals for the fourth annual Maialata, a festive Italian pig roast and pie-toss to benefit DC-based charity, Brainfood. “Maialata” takes its name from the traditional festival of the pig held in the mountain towns of northern Italy. Spreads of wood-fired pig, pastas and summer sides by Chef Benjamin Pflaumer are presented with desserts by Pastry Chef Tova Hillman and cocktails, wine/beer and spirits tastings. Guests are given the unique opportunity to throw one of Morini Pastry Chef Tova Hillman’s signature pies in the face of one of the DMV’s most celebrated chefs or journalists, at the Pie-Toss, one of the year’s most anticipated events. DC Design House – To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The DC Design House, there will be 23 beautifully designed spaces to tour, four boutiques, a Decade of Design celebration on Thursday, September 28 from 6-9 p.m. at the Design House, as well as special events throughout the month in the home’s ballroom, plus a daily onsite cafe by Relish Catering.
