Internationally renowned chef Juan Manuel “Juanma” Barrientos is now offering a tasting menu preview experience for his upcoming D.C. outpost of El Cielo, slated to open in January 2020 in La Cosecha, the Union Market District’s new contemporary Latin marketplace. This newest iteration of El Cielo, which joins Barrientos’ global empire of restaurants with locations in Medellín, Bogotá and Miami, will operate throughout the fall and winter seasons in the Galería, La Cosecha’s culinary immersion studio. Ahead of the permanent opening of El Cielo, which will offer both à la carte and tasting menu options, Barrientos is previewing his famed fine dining fare via a multi-course dining experience. Consisting of eight courses, the El Cielo tasting menu preview experience, dubbed “A Colombian Journey,” features a range of vibrant dishes, including the elaborate “Tree of Life,” a bonsai tree-shaped yuca bread creation; “Elcielo Pantone's Dessert,” made with gooseberry, sorbet, mango, white chocolate curd and pumpkin sponge cake; and the “Fish Full of Coconut,” containing turbot, coconut rice, tamarind vinegar gel and seawater gel. Plus, two additional surprise sensory components round out the experience. The menu is priced at $125 per person. Available Wednesdays through Saturdays with 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. seatings, and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays for brunch.
