This episode of Foodie and the Beast is all about good health, good-for-you edibles, and awesome potables! Joining us are:
Culinary cultural anthropologist and cookbook author, Amy Riolo, and Dr. Sam Pappas. They’ve teamed to offer the latest culinary and medical inspirations to live and eat with pleasure and health. May is Mediterranean Diet Month, Amy is a Mediterranean diet advocate, and May 20th was the release date of her new, Mediterranean Diabetes Cookbook. (Donlt let the title fool you – it’s about healthy eating and weight management for everyone!). Dr. Pappas is a board-certified internist who’s been selected as a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine and is a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Together, they lead public forums, panel discussions, webinars, a Facebook Live series, cooking classes, and workshops, teaching the tenets of the Mediterranean Diet along with the tips and techniques needed to fit them into a busy lifestyle.
Megan Robbins, who recently joined the Canopy by Hilton Hotel on The Wharf as executive chef and Lead Culinary Enthusiast in charge of Canopy Central, the hotel’s cafe and bar, and of Whiskey Charlie, the rooftop cocktail bar.
In a record-setting year in which red wines still dominated, a white wine wowed the smell and taste senses of those who judged the 2019 Virginia Governor’s Cup competition. Horton Vineyards’ 2016 Petit Manseng received the prestigious, 2019 Virginia Governor’s Cup, beating out 509 other Virginia wines. Shannon Horton, the family-owned vineyard’s GM, is in to tell us about the big win and about the upcoming, Vintage Virginia Wine Festival.
The RAMMYS are coming! The RAMMYS are coming. June 30th at the Washington Convention Center, the regional hospitality industry gathers for the annual, “Oscars for the food industry” awards. Foodie and the Beast will be there, and we’re delighted to shine a bright light on some of the nominees, one of which is Ryan Ratino’s Michelin-starred Bresca. Along with being an amazing restaurant, Bresca has a cocktail program to be envied, and Will Patton, Bresca’s bar manager, is in with us, mixing cocktails the likes of which got their program nominated for the Cocktail Program of the Year RAMMY.
