Jeffrey Wasserstrom is Chancellor's Professor at UC Irvine. He has written and edited more than a dozen books, including Chinese Characters: Fast-Changing Lives in a Fast-Changing Land (2012); Vigil: Hong Kong on the Brink (2020); and The Oxford History of Modern China (2022).
