A Georgian Master Class with Ramaz Nikoladze & John Okruashvili
1775 Columbia Road NW
For a country the size of West Virginia, Georgia boasts a remarkably diverse collection of terroirs. Ramaz and John represent two of the most important, hailing from Imereti and Kakheti respectively. Each of them is an essential figure in the country's modern wine renaissance, and Reveler's Hour is positively delighted to have them under their roof on May 27th.
Ramaz Nikoladze comes from a lineage of growers in Imereti, Western Georgia, but what he does today feels like a fresh reawakening rather than mere preservation. He revived a cellar and vineyard that once belonged to his great-grandfather in Nakhshirgele, and since 2007 has been quietly pushing the boundaries of what natural, qvevri-driven winemaking can mean in his region.
Originally from Signaghi in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, John Okruashvili has been immersed in his country’s rich wine culture since he was born. But his personal adventure in wine truly began 2009 when he first bottled his own wine under the name Okro.
