Meet poet Kwame Dawes at the Folger Shakespeare Library

Selected as an esteemed poet by the Folger Poetry Advisory Committee, Poet Laureate of Jamaica (2024-2027) and winner of the prestigious Windham/Campbell Award for Poetry, Kwame Dawes will conclude this year's O.B. Hardison Poetry Series with a live poetry reading and book signing on Tuesday, May 19th at 7:30 p.m.
Dawes has published several books of poetry, in addition to fiction, literary criticism, and essays—most recently, a collection entitled Sturge Town. Currently Professor of Literary Arts at Brown University where he teaches in the Pacific MFA Program, he is also the Series Editor of the African Poetry Book Series, Director of the African Poetry Book Fund, and Artistic Director of the Calabash International Literary Festival.
Dawes will read from his own vast body of work and from writings that he has cited as inspiration. Book selling will be available in the Great Hall after the reading, with the opportunity to have books signed by the poet.
