Paws in the Park 2025

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) will host Paws in the Park, the DMV’s largest fall festival for animal lovers, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 11 AM to 4 PM at Oronoco Bay Park in Old Town Alexandria. This free, family-friendly event will feature adoptable animals, live music, shopping, food trucks, kids’ activities, and a variety of pet-focused entertainment for all ages.
The event provides an opportunity to support animal welfare and promote adoption at a time when shelters across the U.S. face a crisis. In 2024, nearly 5.8 million cats and dogs entered U.S. shelters, with over 600,000 euthanized. In Virginia alone, nearly 10,000 dogs and cats were euthanized in 2023. Community participation, education, and adoption efforts play a critical role in reducing these numbers.
AWLA invites the public and media to attend, with opportunities for on-site interviews with adoptable animals and organization spokespeople in the week leading up to the festival.
