City Winery Washington D.C., located in the Ivy City neighborhood has released its first three vintage wines, a product of the winery''s inaugural crush from fall 2018. You can now enjoy the first District-made 2018 202 Sauvignon Blanc ($18), 2018 Rosé of Syrah ($18), and the 2018 Crummell Seyval($18). Under the direction of local winemaker Adam Drici, the three vintages aged and bottled on location represent the winery's commitments to quality and flavor, as well as sustainability. Drici has decided to forego the traditional, wasteful foil caps that cover the cork. He noted, These mined metals create unnecessary waste without contributing to the overall quality of the wine.” The DC location is the first of City Winery's seven locations to pioneer this green initiative.
Wardman Wines, a wine store and tasting bar in the Brookland neighborhood, has a new subscription wine club, Wardman Circle, to make it even easier and more convenient those of you who are "curious drinkers"' to discover new wines. Featuring a selection of three unique and unexpected wines, the $75 subscription includes tasting notes, suggested food pairings and recipes, information about how the wine was made, and a monthly pick-up party on the second Wednesday of every month at which members will have the opportunity to taste additional wines that will challenge and expand their palates. The monthly subscription box will include a mix of bottles for everyday and special occasion "ranging in price from $18 to $30 each"  any selected during owner Hiram Powers-Heaven's travels to wine regions worldwide. A recent trip to the Veneto and Alto Adige regions of Italy, for example, will inform both an upcoming seminar in the shop as well as future wine club selections.
