“Save The Village” Wine Wednesday

When:
November 06,2019 – November 06,2019 all-day
Where:
Supra
1205 11th Street NW
Supra, DC’s first Georgian restaurant will offer a $20 discount for three of their favorite “Save the Village” Wines, wines that come from small operations outside the main winemaking regions of Georgia. The support that Supra has enjoyed by Washingtonians who have supported their all-Georgian wine list helps these winemakers to continue to produce these wines. The harvest is over, and winemakers all across Georgia are loading up their qvevri. This November, you can try these three spotlighted wines which support Georgian winemaking traditions in more remote areas of the country. Kereselidze Rachuli Blend, 2018 ($56, regularly $76). Kereselidze is a family winery in Dzirageuli village in the west-Georgian region of Racha. For over 200 years, the family has been making wine in a hollowed-out lime tree, the same vessel used for stomping the grapes. By trying this wine, you are supporting the Kereselidzes and their neighbors in Dzirageuli. Baia’s Krakhuna Blend, 2018 ($56, regularly $76). Baia, along with her sister Gvantsa and the rest of the Abuladze family, have ascended onto the natural wine-making scene over the last few years. Hailing from the tiny village of Obcha in Imereti, they also represent the emerging west-Georgian wine community. This blend of three grapes (tsitska, tsolkouri, krakhuna) is made with traditional Georgian methods but in a stainless steel tank. The Abuladzes are saving up for qvevri. Trying their wines helps support their goal toward buying one of their own. Dato’s Aladasturi, 2018 ($58, regularly $78)
Dato makes incredible wines from vines that have graced his land for a long time. At least one vine is over 150 years old. Located in the west-Georgian region of Guria—far from big eastern wine centers—Dato puts all his income back into the ground. Last year, Dato used the proceeds of last year’s sales to purchase new qvevri and build a new marani to grow his operation and double his sales. For more information, please click here.
