Various Locations

In July 2025, the program Youth and the Future of Culture will spotlight the creativity, vitality, resilience, and intergenerational exchange fostered by young people. The initiative will explore how youth influence and engage with culture, driving innovation while sustaining traditions. Drawing on a wide range of communities and perspectives, the program will highlight youth-centered and often youth-led projects, organizations, and individuals who are shaping their communities and addressing contemporary challenges. Through conversation and collaboration, the event aims to foster intergenerational connections and examine the ways young people interact with tradition, inspire future generations, and advocate for change. While youth have long been involved in Festival programming since 1967, this marks the first time the entire Festival will center on their experiences. In 2025, the National Mall will transform into a dynamic “third space” where young musicians, entrepreneurs, skaters, artists, activists, craftspeople, and more will gather to showcase how they are shaping the future on their own terms. Looking ahead to the U.S. semiquincentennial in 2026, the Festival seeks to elevate and support the voices of the next generation, ensuring they remain part of the national conversation.
