Bristol Bay Salmon Week: Wild Sockeye Salmon Across DC
Washington, DC (citywide event)
From September 8–14, 2025, restaurants across Washington, DC will feature wild sockeye salmon from Bristol Bay, Alaska, during the fifth annual Bristol Bay Salmon Week, organized by the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association (BBRSDA).
Bristol Bay produces the world’s most abundant wild sockeye salmon fishery, providing more than half of the global supply. In 2024, fishermen harvested over 30 million sockeye from a return of more than 50 million fish, supporting 10,000 jobs and a billion-dollar annual economy.
Throughout the week, participating DC restaurants — including King Street Oyster Bar, Maketto, Vagabond, and Matt & Tony’s — will showcase the versatility of sockeye salmon with unique dishes.
In addition to celebrating the fishery and its heritage, Salmon Week highlights ongoing efforts to secure permanent protections for Bristol Bay from threats like the proposed Pebble Mine.
On Wednesday, September 10, the Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC) will also announce the winners of its Fish First Awards, recognizing individuals who have advanced the protection and promotion of Bristol Bay, during the annual Bristol Bay Wild Salmon Celebration near the Capitol.
