Slice of History: Civics Pizza Party at Woodlawn
9000 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA
As part of #CivicsSeason, Woodlawn & Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighey House invites the public—especially youth ages 16–30—to a free open house celebrating history, community, and civic engagement over slices of pizza.
Guests can explore the site’s complex and powerful history through self-guided tours of Woodlawn, once a plantation connected to George Washington’s Mount Vernon that became home to an anti-slavery colony before the Civil War. The event encourages reflection on how the past continues to shape contemporary justice movements.
Attendees can also view the new exhibition, Saving Pope-Leighey House: How Marjorie Leighey Rescued Her Frank Lloyd Wright Home, which highlights the efforts to preserve one of Wright’s architectural treasures.
Free pizza will be provided, and all are encouraged to come hungry for both food and thought. This youth-focused event is open to the public and designed to inspire civic awareness and connection through history.
