Behind the Counter: Doron Petersan

Buzz
We have a new section here in TheListAreYouOnIt.com and we're really excited. Once a month, Behind the Counter will feature an industry local whose business creativity, acumen, and knowledge make them the success that they are and that we love. First up, Doron Petersan:

You know Doron as the brains behind Sticky Fingers: Since 1999, Doron Petersan has been proving there's no butter (ha ha ha) way to bake a mess than with Sticky Fingers' delicious, 100% plant-based sweets. Drawing on her degree in dietetics from the University of Maryland and years of experience working in restaurants, Doron grew Sticky Fingers to include wholesale distribution at grocers in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. This two-time Food Network Cupcake Wars winner and author of the Sticky Fingers Sweets & Eats cookbook took time out of her busy schedule to answer a few of our - we must know! - questions:

Why create a plant-based bakery?
What better way to show people that plant-based eating is easy and delicious. You can have your cake, and eat it too. Literally.

What are the changes you've seen in plant-based eating today compared to several years ago?
So many new faces, young and old. That is the biggest change; younger people eating more consciously for the earth and the animals, and more folks my age and older (middle aged folks) looking for healthier ways to enjoy their favorites.

You're now so much more than a bakery, with DIY kits etc. Tell us more about some of these available items.
Making sure there is something for everyone, and every occasion is the goal. Keeping the kids busy, gifts for those near and far, in the DMV and beyond. Our direct-to-consumer treats ensure you enjoy for immediate...enjoyment, DIY (decorate it yourself) and BIY (bake it yourself baking mixes) let you try your hand at creating your favorites.

Finally, a question from The List team: Valentine's Day is over. But we still want to satiate our sweet tooth. What are your favorite treats that you recommend?
People always ask if I get sick of eating my own treats. I will never tire of the chocolate chip cookie and according to our sales, it never goes out of style. But the seasonal sandwich cookies are my go-to when I'm looking for something different than the classics. Chocolate cookie with bright strawberry frosting is too tempting for me to resist.
