Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, known for its made-from-scratch dairy and vegan flavors, has opened its first D.C. location within Union Market. This location is the first of three that are slated to open in D.C. this year. At the Union Market location, the brand has collaborated with Michelin-Starred Chef Johnny Spero to revive his beloved "Birch" ice cream flavor that originated at Reverie. In addition to the Birch flavor, the Union Market store will boast 30 of the brand's signature flavors, such as Honeycomb, Pistachio, Earl Grey Tea, Marionberry Cheesecake, and much more. To celebrate the grand opening, Van Leeuwen will be offering $1 scoops between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23rd. Van Leeuwen Union Market is open Monday through Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., Friday from 12:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.; For more information, visit their website here.
